Editing Territories

Editing the Hierarchy Rules

You can modify the rules by which you created territories in your go-to-market design by following these steps:

  1. Select the parent node for which you'd like to edit the rules-based hierarchy.
  2. Click on the Hierarchy Option menu and select "Edit" from the drop-down list.
  3. If you're using Bucket Values to create the hierarchy, in the edit menu you can add Bucket Values by clicking on "Add Row" and filling out the additional buckets you want to sort by.
  1. If you're using Unique Values to create the hiearchy, you'll only be able to change the treatment of account famillies in the edit menu.
  2. If you're Using SmartPlans, you'll be able to add additional criteria, change the number of nodes you'd like to create, and the treatment of account families.
  3. If you're Using the Map, keep reading on below to edit geo-based territories in the map.
  4. Once you've made the changes you need, click "Save".

Editing Existing Nodes in Your Hierarchy

If you want to edit your existing hierarchy nodes, you'll need to delete those as they are today and create new ones based on your new rules.

Editing Geographical Territories

Review Using the Map to learn more about the mapping tool. To edit the territories created using the map:

  1. Click on the parent node in the Hierarchy panel.
  2. Select the Map tab in the Designer. (Note: This tab is only accessible at the parent node, not at any of the child nodes created using the map!)
  3. This view will show the existing territories created. Click on the hierarchy menu [...] and select Edit from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Next to view the mapping configuration that has been built.
  5. Now you will see the same Map view as in step 2. Click the settings icon in the All Segments box.
  6. Here you can select any of the territories created and edit the following aspects:
  • To edit the node name: Click on the territory you'd like to edit in the Segments section, and click the Pencil icon. Enter a new name for the territory and click the Save icon next to the territory selected.
  • To add additional regions to a territory: Click on the territory you'd like to edit in the Segments section. Select any additional regions on the map and click the Save icon when finished.
  • To remove existing regions from a territory: Click on the territory you'd like to edit in the Segments section. Click the highlighted regions you'd like to delete from the territory and click the Save icon when finished.
  1. Once you've edited the territories, click Save Changes.

Renaming Territories

You can change the names of created territories at any time. To rename a territory node:

  1. Select the node in the hierarchy that you want to change.
  2. Select the "Rename" option from the hierarchy operations menu.
  3. Edit the name of the node and click confirm.

When renaming a territory, the following special characters are not allowed: Forward slash, backward slash, single quotes, double quotes, comma.

Fixed Names

You cannot rename territories at the root of the hierarchy (e.g. All Companies) or the Unassigned node.

Impact of Changing Names

When you edit the names of the territory nodes, the tracked changes will not show the updated name of the territory but will refer to the old name. More specifically, the "From Node" and "To Node" tracking fields will not retroactively fix themselves in the Details Grid.
