Reporting Graphically- Tracking Changes

What-If Modeling Views

As mentioned in Navigating the Design Module, there are multiple views through which you can see your data. To review, information is available to view in three different state views:

1. Current View (Last Committed)

The current view shows the current state of the selected node. This view is the last "committed" state of the node(s), which is selected in the hierarchy.

Screen Item View
Grid Shows the last committed state of the association of records to the selected node
Helpful Metrics Panel Shows the metrics based on the last committed state of the selected node.

2. Proposed View = (Current + Changes)

The proposed view shows the current proposed state of the selected node. This view includes the changes on top of the last committed change, including newly added records and removed records.

Screen Item View
Grid The proposed end state of the node selected
Helpful Metrics Panel Shows the metrics based on the proposed end state of the selected node.

3. Difference View (Changes Only)

The Difference view shows the difference between the current (i.e. last committed state) and the new proposed state of the node. This view is particularly useful to understand the exact changes being proposed.

Screen Item View
Grid Shows only the changes to the selected node. This shows only the difference in the records (i.e. +Added and - Removed) between the current and the proposed states.
Helpful Metrics Panel Shows the metrics calculated only the changes being proposed to a selected node. This view shows the difference in the metrics between the current and proposed state.

Current vs. Proposed vs. Difference Views

To change the view, select the drop-down list next to the breadcrumb that shows the selected node.

Menu Options

Certain menu options change based on the view. Most options available in the Hierarchy Operations Menu are only available under the Proposed View.

Change Indicators

When you see a yellow dot next to a node in the hierarchy, this indicates that there are proposed changes that have not yet been committed. Once you commit the changes, the yellow dots go away, indicating that there are no pending changes.

The details of the pending changes are shown in the grid under the "Proposed view" with a "+" icon for the proposed new additions to the node or "-" icon for records being proposed for removal from the node.

Tracking Changes

When you make changes within the designer, like moving accounts between portfolios or account hierarchies, the proposed changes are then tracked in the app. In the grid, we have added the following custom fields for the purpose of tracking these changes:

  1. Proposed Change - shows you what change has been made. For example, if a record has been added or removed, it would say so in this column.
  2. From Node - shows you where the record was originally found.
  3. To Node - shows you where the record has been moved.
  4. Proposed By - shows you which user made the proposed change.
  5. Proposed DateTime - shows you when the proposed change was made.

Adding the Tracking Columns to the Grid

The records which are currently in proposed state have a set of attributes described above that can also be added to the details grid. You can add and remove the above fields using the Column Chooser icon on the Grid Action Bar. This is useful if you are looking to filter, group or sort by these details.

These changes are tracked in the "Proposed" and "Difference" view until a "commit" operation is carried out. Once you commit the changes, they become a part of your "Current" view.
